Ravi Shastri's Early Life:

  • Born on 27 May 1962, Now currently 59 years as of 2021. He was born and brought up in a middle -  class family from Mumbai, India.
  • He did his schooling from Don Bosco High school in Matunga, Mumbai, India
  • He completed in Graduate course in Commerce from Ramiranjan Anandilal Poddar college.
  • Since Childhood, he was inclined towards cricket and played for his school team in inter-school Giles Shield.
  • In 1977, he captained his school team and won the Giles Shield inter-school tournament for the first time in the history of that school.
  • After that, he also participated in many cricket tournaments during  his college carreer
  • He also represented Mumbai in Ranji Trophy during college days and became the youngest player to achieve the feat for mumbai.

Family:

  • His father's name is M. Jayadratha Shastri and his mother's name is Lakshmi Shastri
  • He was married to Ritu Singh who is a known classical dancer by profession.
  • The couple got married on march 18, 1990 in a private ceremony in the presence of their parents and other close friends
  • The couple got blessed with a baby girl named Aleka Shastri in 2008.
  •  After 22 years of their marriage, the couple got decided to get divorced which was happened in 2012.

Career Highlights:

  • Ravi Shastri made his International Test Debut againt New Zealand on 21 February 1981 at Wellington in New Zealand
  • After that he made his ODI Cricket debut against England on 25 November 1981 at Ahmedabad, India.
  • In 1985 team India went to Australia for the World Championship of Cricket where he scored 182 runs and took 8 wickets for which he adjudjed as the Man of the Series.
  • He also captained india for for few matches and led them to win against West Indies and in tri-nation series against New Zeland and SriLanka. He was an injury-prone cricketer during his career and saw many up-downs in his career.
  • Ravi Shastri played for the Indian national cricket team for 11 years and after that, he took retirement from Test cricket on 26 december 1992 against SouthAfrica, port elizabeth.
  • After retirement from the international cricket he made his debut as a TV commentator with the world masters tournament in Mumbai in March 1995.
  • He also served as a Temporary Official capacities in ICC and BCCI.
  • After that he became Permanent Coach of the IndianTeam in 2017

Awards and Achievements:

  • He became the youngest player to represent mumbai at the Ranji level.
  • He also recorded by scoring the Fastest double century in First class cricket.
  • He also has a record of hitting six sixes in an over in a Ranji match against Baroda while playing for West zone.
  • He won several "Man of the Match" and "Man of the series" awards during his career in cricket.
  • His bowling record of  9-101 remained the best bowling figure in the Irani trophy for almost 20 years.

  • In many interactions with media, Ravi shastri revealed his favourite activities is listening to music and playing golf.
  • His favorite team to play against his Australia and also he stated that his favourite cricketers are Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Viv Richards, Shane Warne and Imran Khan.
  • He also revealed that his cousin Mridula Shastri has captained Indian Woman Team in Swimming and Water polo.
  • He also added that he was called as snail-speed-run-scorer by his teammates as he used to play very slow.
